CHITWAN: Local entrepreneurs and industrialists in Chitwan have urged Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane to take swift action to control the Narayani River and protect the Narayangadh market from river erosion and flooding.
A delegation from the Chitwan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI) met on Monday with RSP Prseident Lamichhane, who represents Chitwan Constituency No. 2 in the House of Representatives. Speaking on behalf of the team, CCCI president Chiranjivi Subedi stated that Narayangadh market and neighbouring areas face severe risks, demanding immediate intervention and long-term river and embankment management.
The delegation, which included Chitwan CCCI Senior Vice President Rajendra Oli and former president Suman Shrestha, currently a central member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), requested an immediate technical assessment of the threat. They urged the RSP Preident to prompt relevant state agencies to dispatch a technical team to inspect riverbank erosion, evaluate existing embankments, and gauge potential risks.
Following the request, Lamichhane promised to coordinate with relevant government ministers and authorities to initiate effective embankment construction and river management work once the study is completed. Subedi said that Lamichhane gave assurances that a technical team would be dispatched promptly to carry out the study and advance the project.
