KATHMANDU: Crowds formed at New Bus Park, Gongabu, on Friday after advance ticket booking for buses opened. Passengers queued at counters to secure seats for both long- and short-route services.

There were long queues at ticket windows as travellers sought tickets for journeys across the country.

Punya Prasad Sitaula, president of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE), said, "Advance ticket booking has been opened for long- and short-route public vehicles providing services across the country."

Shankar Shrestha, chief of the New Bus Park police sector, said, "Strong security arrangements have been put in place at New Bus Park and other areas in view of any untoward incidents during festivals." He added that plain-clothes police personnel have been mobilised for duty.

The Department of Transport Management, together with transport entrepreneurs and workers, decided on Tuesday to open advance ticket booking for festival-targeted transport services.
