KATHMANDU: The Centre of Hydrology and Water Resources Research (CHWRR) has estimated that a landslide blocked the river, triggering a flash flood in Budhigandaki River.
The CHWRR issued a press release saying there was no heavy rainfall in the flood’s source area or surrounding regions that would have caused a severe flood.
Rajan Bhattarai, Spokesperson for the CHWRR under the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat, said there had been only sporadic rainfall in those areas over the past 24 hours. "Based on preliminary information and satellite imagery, it is estimated that a landslide in the upper river area blocked the river, which may have led to the flood," Bhattarai said.
