GORKHA: Nepali Army has rescued dozens of people stranded after flooding of the Budhigandaki River.
Nine people trapped at Nyakphedi in Chumnuwri Rural Municipality-3 were rescued by helicopter and airlifted to Nyakgaun, Gorkha’s Assistant Chief District Officer Netra Prasad Sharma said. Eighteen others — including a foreign tourist, local residents and workers — were trapped at a hydropower project in Dharche Rural Municipality-1; they were also rescued and flown to Hulchuk village.
Four army helicopters were mobilised to assist operations in Chumnuwri, Dharche and Arughat rural municipalities in Gorkha district.
The floods damaged about 50 houses in Salleri, Ghattekhola, Painyu, Dhivan and Bagar, and roughly 25 houses in Machhikhola, Yarubagar and Dobhan of Dharche Rural Municipality. Around 15 houses were also damaged in Soti of Arughat Rural Municipality.
“A total of 15 people went missing due to the flood,” Assistant CDO Sharma added.
