TRISHULI, NUWAKOT: A bailey bridge installed by the Nepali Army at Betrawati on Sunday has restored road access between Nuwakot and Rasuwa districts.
The pre-fabricated truss bridge was erected over the Phalakhu stream, re-establishing the route cut off by the Bhotekoshi–Trishuli floods on August 26, which swept away two motorable bridges at Bidur Municipality-10 and Uttargaya Rural Municipality-5.
According to Nepali Army Spokesperson Brigadier General Rajaram Basnet, the new bridge has a bearing capacity of 40 tonnes, measures 73.2 metres in length and is 5.5 metres wide.
Major General Anup Jung Thapa said the bridge has eased movement for people in Nuwakot and Rasuwa and will speed up the transportation of goods, including relief supplies, to flood-affected areas. It took a Nepali Army squad five days to install the structure after clearing a difficult, rocky 300-metre stretch between Agingtar and Betrawati in close coordination with the Department of Roads.
"After the floods swept away the access road, there was no route to reach Betrawati," Major General Thapa said.
A technical report detailing the construction has been handed to Krishna Nath Ojha, chief of the Road Project Office for Nuwakot and Rasuwa.
