KATHMANDU: The government will procure 15,000 metric tonnes of paddy at the minimum support price this fiscal year, allocating Rs 675 million for the procurement.

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Environment said it is coordinating with the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies to carry out the purchases. The private secretariat of Agriculture Minister Gita Chaudhary confirmed the procurement process has begun.

The minimum support price for monsoon paddy has been set at Rs 3,660 per quintal, while the price for coarse and medium‑grade paddy has been fixed at Rs 3,860 per quintal.

The secretariat said procuring paddy at the minimum support price will ensure farmers receive a fair return for their produce and help reduce uncertainty in market prices.
