NARAYANGADH: The Road Division Office in Bharatpur has stepped up repairs on the national highway and rural roads ahead of the festival season, when traffic volumes are expected to rise.
Officials said many defects were caused by recent floods, landslides and heavy rainfall, and that repair work has been accelerated to ease travel for motorists and passengers.
Krishna Prasad Acharya, information officer at the office, said highways and local roads were being maintained to help ensure safe travel. He added that road repairs had received extra attention this year despite regular maintenance schedules.
"We aim to create safe atmosphere for travellers," Acharya said. He listed sections including Narayangadh-Muglin, Narayangadh-Lothar, Bharatapur-Madi, Bharatpur–Meghauli and Nawalpur–Kaligandaki as being repaired on a regular basis, and said most of these stretches have already been attended to.
Acharya also attributed some of the damage to incessant rain and to vehicles carrying loads beyond the roads' bearing capacity.
Repair teams are using emulsion patch and rectifix patch methods to restore the surfaces.
