KATHMANDU: Huawei Technologies Nepal Co hosted the Huawei Nepal ISP Event 2026 on Thursday under the theme 'Accelerate F5G, Boost Intelligence'. The event brought together internet service providers, ICT firms and industry stakeholders to discuss next-generation connectivity, artificial intelligence and digital infrastructure.

Chester Chen, CEO of Huawei Nepal, opened the conference and said, “Nepal’s digital ecosystem is entering a new phase where connectivity is becoming the foundation for economic growth, innovation, and digital inclusion. As user expectations continue to evolve, ISPs need to move beyond traditional connectivity and embrace intelligent networks, AI‑driven operations, and new business models. Huawei remains committed to working together with Nepal’s ISP industry by providing innovative technologies, global experience, and industry best practices to support this transformation.”

Executive presentations concentrated on technical evolution and service diversification across the telecommunications sector, with speakers outlining commercial and operational opportunities for domestic providers.

Lawrence Wu, COO of Huawei Overseas ISP Business Unit, outlined how artificial intelligence is reshaping the ISP landscape by driving demand for high‑performance networks, computing infrastructure and digital services, and noted Nepal’s competitive electricity tariffs as an advantage for expanding operations beyond basic bandwidth delivery.

In a session on optical network deployment, Andy Wu, Huawei APAC Optical Director, set out the Home Network + X strategy and identified Video Surveillance as a Service (VSaaS) and Wi‑Fi as a Service (WaaS) as significant commercial opportunities. He explained how premium home networking systems and value-added services can enhance subscriber experience while creating steady revenue streams.

David Hu, Huawei APAC ISP CTO, outlined the shift from standard internet service provision to Managed Service Provider (MSP) models in the AI era, and highlighted technical and service opportunities including AI token services, Model as a Service, GPU as a Service, and upgrades to enterprise storage and network infrastructures that could enable local firms to broaden their offerings and deliver automated digital solutions.

Marking 27 years of continuous operations in Nepal, Huawei reiterated its intention to work with local partners, ISPs and sector organisations to upgrade network quality, raise operational efficiency and expand digital service capabilities. The company said ongoing technological development and cross‑sector cooperation are central to its efforts to support national digital inclusion and move the country towards a more interconnected infrastructure.

Founded globally in 1987, Huawei established a presence in Nepal in 1999. The company said that over a 25‑year history in the local market it has expanded digital connectivity, supported local employment and carried out corporate social responsibility projects in disaster relief, renewable energy and education initiatives such as Seeds for the Future. Huawei currently provides daily ICT services to more than 8 million people across Nepal.
