KATHMANDU: A delegation from Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), led by its President Anjan Shrestha, met Minister for Infrastructure Development Sunil Lamsal to press for policy reforms and solutions to private sector challenges.
During the meeting in Singha Durbar on Thursday, FNCCI President Shrestha said the government must prioritise creating an investment‑friendly climate, remove operational obstacles, revive economic activity hit by recent floods and landslides, and boost exports. He called for sound legal frameworks, accelerated infrastructure development and measures to restore private‑sector confidence.
Lamsal responded positively, saying ongoing work and policy reforms aim to support economic development and a business‑friendly environment. He urged the private sector to set out its concerns clearly so the government and industry can work together to expand economic activity.
“Whatever problems the private sector faces, and whatever legal reforms are required to boost economic activity in the country, create employment, and make the economy dynamic, the government is prepared to do. The private sector should present those problems openly,” Lamsal said, adding that the government remained ready to support and sustain local industries.
Shrestha said effective collaboration between government and business was essential. “The government is the guardian of all. The private sector is always ready to make the economy dynamic through increased production and productivity, export expansion, and job creation. Effective collaboration between the government and the private sector is essential for this,” he said, and urged authorities to identify and resolve administrative and practical difficulties faced by industrialists and to remove barriers to investment expansion.
The delegation also called for targeted facilitation to restore affected industries, businesses, supply chains and infrastructure after natural disasters, to help return the economy to normal.
