KATHMANDU: The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has announced a Rs 3 million cash reward for the national cricket team after qualifying for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Asia Cup.
CAN President Chatur Bahadur Chand announced the reward at a press conference in Kathmandu on Sunday while providing updates on preparations for the third edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).
Nepal secured its place in the One-Day International (ODI) Asia Cup for the second time after defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by 44 runs in September.
Chand said the qualification was a major achievement for Nepali cricket and urged the government to announce a reward for the team.
He said the NPL contributed significantly to the economy and the sports sector, adding that stakeholders coordinated to organise the tournament despite challenging circumstances.
Chand also said financial transparency and auditing had improved considerably in the second edition of the NPL compared with the inaugural edition.
The third edition of the NPL is set to begin in Kathmandu today, with eight teams competing for the title.
