KATHMANDU: Rainfall and the overall impact of Cyclone Arnab across Nepal are expected to subside from Saturday afternoon onwards, according to the Nepal Meteorological Department.
Light rainfall has been occurring across most areas of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, as well as isolated parts of Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
David Dhakal, meteorologist at the Department, said, "However, the effects of cyclone will gradually weaken starting from Saturday afternoon. Everyone should stay updated with weather information of specific to location concerned."
The Department noted that although Cyclone Arnab initially developed into a strong low-pressure area over India, its overall impact across Nepal — including rainfall, snowfall, and windstorms — remains minimal due to significant weakening as it crossed into Nepali territory.
Widespread rainfall and snowfall are anticipated across most parts of the country through this afternoon and into tonight, Dhakal added.
"The weather of most of the places of Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki and Lumbini as well as high-hilly regions of Karnali and Sudurpaschim Provinces will remain cloudy this afternoon. There is also a possibility of moderate rainfall with lightning and thunderstorm and snowfall at few places of hilly and mountainous regions of these provinces," he stated.
The Department has forecast overcast conditions across most parts of the country overnight, with general predictions of moderate rainfall and snowfall alongside localized heavy precipitation.
In the preceding 24 hours, Kavrepalanchok recorded the highest total precipitation in the country at 50.2 millimetres.
