KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Prakash Sharan Mahat has said cooperation and collaboration between the government and private sector is essential to address the unemployment problem in Nepal.
Addressing an interaction organised by Nepal Training and Employment Entrepreneurs' Federation here on Thursday, Minister Mahat opined that professional and skill-based training should be provided based on market needs. Only demand-based training can create jobs and contribute to the national economy, he argued.
He stressed that the federation could produce competent workers in the wake of the exodus of Nepalis to foreign lands for employment. It is worrying that the country has a shortage of both competent human resources and employment opportunities. Minister Mahat commented that although many institutions including the Labour Department, Department of Foreign Employment and private sector were providing training, they have yet to be result-oriented.
On the occasion, Federation Chairman Achyut Nepal informed that the federation has been providing skill-based training with the partnership of the government so that the gap between the demand and supply sides of human resources could be met.
