CIM honours long-serving workers on International Labour Day

BIRATNAGAR: Chamber of Industries Morang (CIM) organised a worker felicitation and well-wishing exchange programme to mark the 136th International Labour Day (May Day) on Thursday.  

On the occasion, three long-serving workers from industries in the Sunsari-Morang industrial corridor were felicitated for their dedicated service.  

The honoured workers were Basanti Pokharel, who has been employed at Rijal Tashi Industries for 35 years, Shyam Kumar Kamat, who has worked at Hulas Motors for 31 years, and Sita Adhikari, who has been serving at Himalayan Khadya & Packing Udyog for 28 years.  

The three workers were jointly honoured by CIM President Rakesh Surana, Senior Vice President Nand Kishor Rathi, Vice President (Employer Sector) Bipin Kabra, former presidents, and Trade Union Province Committee chairpersons, who presented them with letters of appreciation and cash awards.  

During the well-wishing exchange programme, CIM President Surana emphasised the importance of cooperation between workers and employers in enhancing industrial productivity and fostering an industry-friendly environment. He expressed confidence that continuous dialogue and collaboration between industrialists and workers would strengthen mutual relations and improve labour conditions. He stated that May Day serves as an inspiration to the working class, and encouraged unity to tackle challenges in economic sector.  

Speaking at the programme, Tika Prasai, Coordinator of the Unified Trade Union Coordination Committee, Koshi Province, remarked that such initiatives help strengthen relations between workers and employers and foster a positive sentiment among employees.  

The event was attended by former CIM presidents, immediate past president, office bearers, executive committee members, industrialists, businesspersons, representatives from Nepal Trade Union Congress (NTUC), General Federation of Nepalese Trade Unions (GEFONT), All Nepal Federation of Trade Unions (ANTUF), as well as province and district committee chairpersons, officials, executive committee members from various trade unions, and workers from different industrial establishments.
