CNI, UoN sign MoU to link education and industry

KATHMANDU: Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) and the University of Nepal (UoN) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to link education and industry and foster mutual collaboration.  

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the CNI Secretariat on Wednesday, where Registrar Dr Surya Raj Acharya signed on behalf of UoN, and Director General Ghanashyam Ojha signed on behalf of CNI.  

During the event, CNI President Rajesh Kumar Agrawal stated that producing skilled manpower is a pressing need. He expressed confidence that UoN, established with a new concept to enhance skill-based learning alongside academic qualifications, would contribute to workforce development. He also affirmed CNI’s commitment to bridging the gap between students at UoN and industries. Furthermore, he expressed hope that UoN would introduce reforms to transform traditional educational programmes.

UoN Chancellor Dr Bindu Nath Lohani emphasised that CNI should support university students by facilitating internships in industries to enhance their practical learning experiences. Highlighting UoN’s objective of advancing skill-based education, Lohani stated that such initiatives are crucial in the current context.  

UoN Vice-Chancellor Dr Arjun Karki stated that the university would introduce programmes focused on developing skills, entrepreneurship, and innovation, along with instilling strong ethical values in students. He noted that UoN is advancing under a new concept and urged collective cooperation to ensure its success.  

CNI Senior Vice President Birendra Raj Pandey outlined plans for collaboration with the university in areas such as industry experience, curriculum development, innovation, and research.  

Also present at the event were UoN board members Dr Jagadish Chandra Pokharel, Dr Bimala Rai Paudyal, Er Lal Krishna KC, and others.
