KATHMANDU: Nepal Rastra Bank's (NRB) Mint Division is set to sell gold asarfi and silver medallions ahead of the Tihar festival.

The division, which operates under the central bank's Currency Management Department, will sell the gold asarfi and silver medallions from its office in Babarmahal on Nov 5 and 6, according to a notice issued on Wednesday.

NRB said sales will take place from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm and continue for customers in the queue until stocks are exhausted. The price of the asarfi and silver medallions will be determined daily at around 11:00 am, and sales will begin only after the price is fixed.

According to the notice, each person may purchase one 25-gram gold asarfi and up to two 10-gram silver medallions engraved with images of the deities Lakshmi and Ganesh.

Individuals wishing to purchase the items must be present in person and provide a copy of their Nepali citizenship certificate, national identity card or another document bearing the relevant identification number. Payments may be made in cash or through QR transactions.

People traditionally place asarfi and silver medallions at special altars during Laxmi Puja, one of the major rituals of the Tihar festival. Devotees offer prayers to Goddess Laxmi, regarded as the deity of wealth and prosperity.
