BEIJING: China has lifted a ban on domestic airlines accepting new Boeing aircraft, a report stated on Tuesday, following an agreement between Beijing and Washington to temporarily lower tariffs in a significant de-escalation of their trade war.

Last month, the American aircraft manufacturer confirmed that Chinese airlines had halted the acceptance of new plane deliveries due to substantial tit-for-tat levies imposed by both sides.

However, Bloomberg News reported on Tuesday that Chinese officials have begun informing domestic carriers that they may resume orders for US-made aircraft, citing sources familiar with the matter.

Boeing did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The development comes after the two nations announced on Monday that they would significantly reduce tariffs for 90 days and continue negotiations.

Washington's new duties on many imports from China had reached 145%, while Beijing had retaliated with tariffs of 125% on US goods.

Following Monday’s discussions in Geneva, the United States lowered tariffs to 30%, while China reduced its own to 10%.

US President Donald Trump described the outcome as a "total reset" and suggested that talks with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, could soon follow.

The company had intended to deliver around 50 aircraft to China in 2025, its chief executive, Kelly Ortberg, stated last month.

China’s foreign ministry also did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
