PM Oli inaugurates Sagarmatha Sambaad

KATHMANDU: Sagarmatha Sambaad, an international dialogue on climate action, sustainability, and global partnerships under the theme "Climate Change, Mountains and the Future of Humanity," has begun in Kathmandu today.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli inaugurated the event at a special ceremony this morning.

Over 350 national and international distinguished figures are in attendance.

Earlier, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Coordinator of the Sambaad Management Committee, Dr Arzu Rana Deuba, welcomed the guests.

Speakers are currently addressing the gathering.

Parallel thematic sessions will take place after the inaugural session concludes.

The government is organising Sagarmatha Sambaad to inform the global community about climate change and its effects, while exploring measures for climate resilience.

The programme includes a series of sessions, seminars, and keynote speeches on climate action, sustainability, and global partnerships.

A high-level delegation from 12 countries is participating.

Dignitaries from China, India, and several other nations have already arrived in Kathmandu, while more participants are expected.

The leaders of the Indian and Chinese delegations are scheduled to address the event.

Additionally, the COP29 President and Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan for Climate Issues are set to speak.

A video message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres addressed to Sagarmatha Sambaad was scheduled for presentation today.

A series of plenary sessions will take place following the inaugural session.

The event will conclude on May 18.
