KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr Arzu Rana Deuba stated that the country and society cannot progress with the prevailing negative mindset pervasive within the community.

While addressing a reception organised by the Nepali People's Liaison Committee in Tokyo, Japan, on Thursday, she remarked that negative thinking—for example, the notion that "nothing will happen and it is not possible"—is being cultivated and disseminated, which will ultimately impede both societal and national development.

The Foreign Minister emphasised that such a mentality exists not only among political parties within the country but also within Nepali society and among Nepalis living abroad. She stressed that there is a need to abandon this tendency and foster a constructive environment conducive to nation-building.

"I do not see a positive portrayal or expression of anything. Although commendable and progressive endeavours have been undertaken in society and in the country, they are seldom recognised for their merit. It seems as though everyone is focused on going viral in the media, and I only observe the belief that negative publicity garners more attention. This is not how a country should operate," she asserted.

Minister Rana urged non-resident Nepalis to unite and engage with a positive mindset. "The Nepali diaspora around the world wields considerable influence. If you unite, you will gather significant strength to fight for your rights. Therefore, my plea is to avoid being entangled in trivial matters and to strive to create a unified NRNA," she said.

She clarified that the government had facilitated the recent NRNA convention in compliance with the Supreme Court’s directive and that a new executive committee had been formed on the basis of consensus.

Furthermore, Minister Rana called on Nepalis across the globe to channel the skills, knowledge, and capital they have acquired abroad into Nepal’s development. Following her appointment as Foreign Minister, she explained that a dedicated department had been established within the ministry to provide consular and other essential services related to foreign affairs to the Nepali diaspora and underscored that the collaboration of all Nepalis is indispensable.

"We have established a separate branch for the economic diplomacy of the Nepali diaspora and are making progress with our endeavours. For this, the significant involvement of all Nepalis worldwide is vital, and the Government of Nepal anticipates similar support," the Minister added.
