"Planting trees is one of the simplest yet most powerful ways to restore our planet. It’s a tangible act of hope that cleans our air, protects water sources and supports biodiversity — including human life," said Bina Rana, President of Zonta Club Kathmandu. "In a changing climate, every tree planted is a promise for a healthier, more resilient future. This initiative also reaffirms our commitment to advancing gender equality and climate justice, recognising that women and girls are disproportionately affected by environmental challenges."
The initiative forms part of Zonta International’s global campaign "Zonta Says NOW", which calls for gender-equal climate action, recognising the climate crisis as a human rights issue that disproportionately impacts women and girls.
"Every little act makes a difference," added Shristi Singh Shrestha, Executive Director of JGIN. "We are proud to partner with Zonta Club Kathmandu in supporting urban reforestation efforts and community-led environmental stewardship."

To ensure the sustainability of the plantation, JGIN has partnered with the local ward office for long-term maintenance of the trees. The initiative directly supports JGIN’s mission of Compassion, Conservation and Collective Action, particularly in biodiversity and urban greenery.
Zonta Club Kathmandu is part of Zonta International, a global organisation dedicated to advancing the status of women and girls through service and advocacy. The club actively works to combat gender-based violence, promote gender equality and empower women and girls through various initiatives, including Zonta Says NOW. These efforts include raising awareness, providing support services to survivors and advocating for policy change.
