KATHMANDU: Non-Resident Ambassador of Uruguay to Nepal, Alberto A Guani, paid a courtesy call on Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, on Tuesday at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation in Singha Durbar, Kathmandu. The two discussed various issues, including closer collaboration in the energy and irrigation sectors between their nations.

Minister Khadka emphasised the need for support and cooperation from donor agencies to meet the government's target of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity by 2035. He urged the Non-Resident Ambassador to offer technical assistance to Nepal in developing its renewable energy sector, as well as to identify viable investment opportunities.

Minister Khadka also highlighted the immense potential for growth in trade, investment in the energy sector, sustainable development and tourism. Noting that Uruguay has acquired valuable experience in renewable energy – particularly wind energy – Ambassador Guani remarked that technology transfer and an exchange of expertise could be mutually beneficial, given the skills, knowledge and expertise of Nepali professionals in water resources management. High-ranking officials from the Ministry were also present at the meeting.
