KATHMANDU: The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has issued a circular mandating the availability of all necessary supplies required for organ transplantation within government-run pharmacies.
The circular directs government hospitals and health institutions to ensure that all goods needed for organ transplantation and related procedures are available within hospital pharmacies. This measure aims to address patients’ concerns regarding being forced to purchase such items at inflated prices from private suppliers.
MoHP spokesperson Dr Prakash Budhathoki said that, following decisions made at the secretary level, government pharmacies are instructed to maintain adequate supplies of these necessities and to publicly display price lists.
Furthermore, the MoHP has instructed all government hospitals that if any new types of items are required for transplantation, surgery or the treatment of any disease in upcoming fiscal year, they must arrange for patients to receive these items only after publicly disclosing the company, authorised sellers and prices. This directive is intended to prevent overcharging and protect patients from exploitation.
The MoHP has also cautioned hospitals to avoid creating any environment that may lead to patient complaints.
