Airlines across the Gulf have cancelled multiple flights to Middle Eastern destinations after several countries closed their airspace in response to Israeli airstrikes on Iran.

Emirates, the UAE’s national carrier, suspended flights to and from Iran, Iraq, Jordan, and Lebanon, including a scheduled Tehran flight on Saturday. Qatar Airways also halted flights to Iran and Iraq, citing the "current situation in the region".

Airports in the UAE have warned travellers of flight delays and cancellations, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi airports confirming disruptions due to airspace closures over Iran, Iraq, and Syria.

The measures come after Jordan and Iraq closed their airspace, grounding all flights, following Israeli strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites. Jordan’s military reported intercepting drones and missiles that entered its airspace.

The Israeli strikes reportedly killed top Iranian military and nuclear officials, prompting Iran to launch about 100 drones in retaliation — which Israel is now working to intercept.

The situation has triggered growing concerns over regional security and air travel safety, prompting swift action by airlines and aviation authorities.
