IMS student Bhatta wins 'Life Computer Website Competition Season 7'

KATHMANDU: Prasun Bhatta, a student at Ideal Model School (IMS) in Jawalakhel, has won the national-level 'Life Computer Website Competition Season 7'.

Of 981 entries from schools across Nepal, judges first shortlisted 20 sites, then reduced the field to 10 before naming a top three. Bhatta claimed first place on the strength of his presentation, clean coding, user-friendly design and technical proficiency.

Sushil Khadka of Adarsha Saula Yubak Secondary School, Lalitpur, secured second place, while Adesh Bhandari of Sri Sundari Secondary School, Dhading, secured third place.

The champion received a laptop worth Rs 100,000; the first runner-up was awarded Rs 50,000 in cash; and the second runner-up received Rs 30,000.

The final judging and prize ceremony was held at Rastriya Nachghar in Jamal, Kathmandu. Kul Man Ghising, former executive director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), was chief guest and praised the competition for fostering creativity and a passion for technology among students.  

Professor Dr Subarna Shakya, Director of the Information Technology Innovation Centre at Tribhuvan University, said the contest had boosted students’ morale. Chiranjibi Adhikari, Vice President of the Federation of Computer Association Nepal (CAN Federation), commended the competitors’ enthusiasm for website development, while Prakash Babu Thapa, South Asia regional director of the Universal Peace Federation, lauded their talent and creativity.

The event was conceived by Ramesh Pokharel, Chief Executive Officer of Life Computer, who said its main objective was to develop students’ digital skills through hands-on experience. Laxmi Khatri, Managing Director of Life Computer and programme coordinator, added that nationwide participation and dedication had made the competition a success.

At the ceremony, Krishna Dhungel was named 'Best Team Member of the Year'.

Students performed several cultural acts during the programme. Representatives from schools, colleges and technical associations, together with teachers, parents and other guests, attended in large numbers, and all participants received tokens of appreciation.
