KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has argued that the budget for upcoming fiscal year is as balanced as possible.
Responding to queries from House of Representatives members at Tuesday’s meeting, he assured that balance will be maintained in budget allocations in the coming days, adding that not all lawmakers can be content due to the state’s limited capacity.
“We need prompt and broader development, but the budget is limited, so not all lawmakers can be satisfied. Attention will be paid in the coming days to maintain a balance between demand and supply,” he said, answering questions on allocations for the Office of the President, the Office of the Vice-President and the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and its line agencies.
He argued that Nepal needs private-sector investment as well as foreign direct investment (FDI) to sustain that balance. “The need, analysis and planning for investment will be managed by the Investment Board of Nepal,” he added.
The Prime Minister also urged stakeholders not to make trivial remarks in parliament that could weaken democracy and national unity, noting that parliament is the platform on which people’s sacrifices, struggles and dreams are realised.
He said the government will work on amending the constitution to further strengthen the system, and stressed that any disrespect to martyrs’ and people’s sacrifices or to the constitutional framework is intolerable.
