KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Dipak Khadka returned home on Monday evening after attending the fifth energy ministerial meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Ningbo, Zhejiang province of China.
The meeting, held from June 23 to 27, brought together energy ministers from nine member countries – the host China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan – alongside representatives from three observer countries and 14 dialogue partners.
According to Khadka, the conference featured various discussions on energy cooperation with China, and he described his visit as fruitful.
At the ministerial-level meeting, Khadka sought commitment to further cooperation and contribution to Nepal’s energy sector and outlined the targets Nepal has set for energy development.
“Energy is no longer just a business matter; it is the foundation of our sustainable development and shared prosperity,” he said. “Nepal has now planned to advance the energy sector as a key driver.”
While in China, Khadka also met members of the Nepali community. He left Kathmandu on the night of June 23 to participate in the meeting.
