KATHMANDU: Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) President Chandra Prasad Dhakal has urged British companies to invest in Nepal.

Speaking at a programme jointly organised by the Britain Nepal Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of Nepal in London, FNCI President Dhakal said there are attractive opportunities in the hydropower, tourism, agriculture, information technology, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors, and encouraged British entrepreneurs to explore them.

The event, held at the Nepali Embassy in London to strengthen economic relations between Nepal and Britain, attracted businesspeople, investors and community representatives from both countries.

In a special address, Dhakal highlighted more than 200 years of historical ties between Nepal and Britain, mentioning Britain’s contributions through Gurkha soldier recruitment, development cooperation, education and trade. He emphasised that these relations should be further elevated through increased trade and investment.

Discussing Nepal’s investment potential, Dhakal pointed to the country’s strategic geographic location, young and skilled workforce, low labour costs and expanding middle class as factors that create an investment-friendly environment.

“Nepal has attractive opportunities in the hydropower, tourism, agriculture, information technology, infrastructure and manufacturing sectors. Nepal has the capacity to generate more than 40,000 MW of hydropower. Clean and green energy is the future, and we invite British companies to participate in these opportunities,” he said.

Dhakal added that the skills and expertise of Nepali youth in information technology can position Nepal as a competitive hub for outsourcing and digital services, and assured investors that FNCCI is committed to providing facilitation and a stable investment environment.

He also praised the Nepali community in Britain for strengthening bilateral ties and suggested they could further support the marketing of Nepali products and the promotion of tourism. The programme, he said, is expected to elevate trade, investment and cooperation between the two countries to new heights.
