KHANDBARI, SANKHUWASABHA: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Dipak Khadka said employment creation and self-reliance are only possible through skills-based training.
Minister Khadka emphasised the need to equip the local workforce in Sankhuwasabha district with skills to develop the area as a hub for hydropower production.
He made the remarks while inaugurating a 20-day training programme on powerhouse operation and maintenance in Khandbari Municipality-1 today.
Noting that mega hydropower projects such as Arun III, Upper Arun, Lower Arun and Arun IV are under construction in the district, he said local young people should benefit from these schemes.
He acknowledged that the trainees’ role will be crucial for the long-term success of these projects. “In a district with immense hydropower potential, the need of the hour is to empower young people through skills development to make them self-reliant and economically stronger,” he said.
According to the minister, skills development is not only the foundation for employment but also a gateway to economic empowerment and self-reliance.
Furthermore, Minister Khadka unveiled plans to establish a technical institute in Khandbari. He added that several skills-based training programmes in fields such as health, construction, carpentry, plumbing and electrical work will be conducted in the district in the coming days.
On the occasion, Khandbari Municipality Mayor Mahesh Thapaliya reaffirmed his commitment to supporting such initiatives, which, he said, would instil hope, potential and a sense of self-reliance among young people.
