KATHMANDU: President Ramchandra Paudel said that the Teej festival should be protected and promoted, as it symbolises emotional attachment, love, affection and creativity. In a message on the occasion of the festival, he wished happiness, peace and prosperity, as well as religious, cultural and social goodwill, to all Nepali sisters at home and abroad.
He stated that the festival has played a crucial role in fostering brotherhood, harmony, mutual unity, patience and dedication. He added that Teej would infuse new vigour into efforts to create a civilised and equitable society by ending all forms of injustice, including discrimination and violence against women.
Llikewise, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli extended greetings to all Nepali sisters on the occasion of Haritalika Teej festival. Taking to social media, PM Oli described Teej as the great festival of Nepali Hindu women and termed it a celebration of reverence, courtesy and kindness.
He also wished for intimacy within families, joy among couples and harmony in society, saying that the festival embodied the spirit of joint family culture.
While Teej is often celebrated with songs and dance, the Prime Minister noted that its roots lie in devotion, restraint and self-discipline. “In ancient times, both husband and wife observed a fast in worship of the Sapta Rishi,” he said, “but over time the tradition evolved into a fast observed only by women.”
