Nepali garment industries creating huge number of jobs: Minister Bhandari

KATHMANDU: Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies Damodar Bhandari has said that garment industries in the country have created jobs for thousands of people.

He made this remark while inaugurating the 30th annual general meeting (AGM) of the Garment Association Nepal in Kathmandu on Wednesday. Minister Bhandari stated that the garment sector has made a significant contribution to the nation’s economic development through employment generation and foreign currency earnings.

The Industry Minister added that domestic production, local skills development and employment creation through production growth are inevitable for national development. He pledged to introduce business‐friendly policies and programmes to promote quality products, brands and exports of Nepali goods.

Nepali Congress leader Ramhari Khatiwada and Rastriya Swatantra Party leader Ganesh Parajuli said that a robust national economy could be developed by promoting domestic products and discouraging foreign goods, and urged the government to take stakeholders on board for this to materialise.
