KATHMANDU: Smart Choice Technologies (SCT) has launched its Access Control Server (ACS) service, marking a major milestone for secure digital payments in the country.
The ACS forms a key element of the global 3D Secure protocol, enabling cardholders to authenticate themselves during online transactions and providing enhanced protection against fraud. SCT’s centralised platform allows banks and financial institutions to adopt this strengthened e-commerce security without the need for individual investment in costly infrastructure.
Global IME Bank has become the first institution in Nepal to subscribe to SCT’s ACS service, with NMB Bank following suit and going live on the platform. Cardholders of both banks will now benefit from secure and seamless authentication when making online payments, setting a new industry benchmark. SCT says it remains committed to driving innovation in the payments ecosystem and will continue to expand the service with its partner banks.
SCT describes the ACS introduction as a breakthrough in Nepal’s digital payment landscape. By offering real-time authentication and fraud-prevention measures, the service aims to ensure safer and more reliable experiences for online shopping, ticketing and payments. The move is expected to bolster consumer confidence in digital channels and support Nepal’s transition towards a cashless economy, aligning the country with international standards of payment security.
