Korala border emerges as major revenue source, collects Rs 1.78bn in 15 days

MUSTANG: Nepal-China customs office at Nhechung in Lomanthang Rural Municipality-4, located at the Korala border point, collected Rs 1.78 billion in revenue over the past 15 days, according to the customs office.

The sharp rise in revenue follows flooding in Bhotekoshi area that disrupted operations at Rasuwagadhi-Gyirong border point in Rasuwa, resulting in a significant increase in goods entering Nepal through Mustang.

Chief Customs Officer Bidur Chudal said the flow of Chinese goods through Korala had increased after Rasuwagadhi-Gyirong border crossing was completely closed.

The Mustang Customs Office collected Rs 270 million in revenue on Friday alone. Chudal said the office has expected average daily revenue of around Rs 300 million since September 7.

On Friday, customs officials processed 71 containers and 106 electric vehicles (EVs) headed to various destinations across Nepal.

According to the customs office, a total of 434 containers and 641 electric vehicles entering Nepal through the Korala border have undergone customs clearance since the closure of the Rasuwagadhi crossing.
