Bhagwat Bhattarai elected president of SEJON

KATHMANDU: Society of Economic Journalists–Nepal (SEJON), at its 27th annual general meeting (AGM) on Saturday,  elected Bhagwat Bhattarai of Setopati.com as president. Bhattarai secured 110 votes, ahead of Bishwas Regmi’s 92 and Asha Thapaliya’s 41.

Of the 266 general members, 246 cast their ballots.

Jeevan Basnet of Karobar Daily was elected unopposed as vice president.

Kamal Kumar Basnet, sub-editor at Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS), was elected general secretary with 139 votes. He defeated Achut Puri of Online Khabar, who received 104.

Keshu Lamichhane of Ukalo.com was chosen treasurer with 133 votes, while his nearest rival, Mamata Thapa of Annapurna Daily, secured 108. Shankar Pandit of Himalayan Television was elected secretary unanimously.

Other members of the executive committee include Arjun Tamang (Tourismpati), Kamal Dhital (Bahrakhari), Bhojraj Bhandari (Corporate News), Raju Baskota (Clickmandu) and Sima Tamang (Kantipur Daily).

Chief Election Officer Dharmendra Jha handed certificates to the newly elected members. Jha, who is also executive chairman of RSS, said he believed the new executive committee would further enhance SEJON’s standing by raising economic issues and strengthening its presence in Nepali media.
