High-level committee to be formed to facilitate safe travel during festival season

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to form a high-level Transport Management Committee to facilitate services and ensure safe, smooth travel for passengers during the current situation and festival season.

A meeting held today under the coordination of the Director General of the Department of Transport Management produced a six-point resolution, said Keshav Kumar Sharma, Secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. Sharma chaired the meeting.

The committee will include Chief of the Highway Security Division of Nepal Police Headquarters, Chief of Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office and Chairperson of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs (FNNTE), along with other stakeholders.

Saroj Sitaula, Senior Vice Chairperson of FNNTE, told RSS that the meeting decided to conduct technical examinations of vehicles departing the Kathmandu Valley during the festival season and to establish passenger help desks as required.

It was also agreed to call on all concerned bodies, including the FNNTE, to arrange vehicles so that passengers leaving the Valley during the current situation and festival season can reach their destinations easily and smoothly.

The meeting resolved to initiate the necessary procedures to collect details of damage to public vehicles and transport-related offices caused during the Gen-Z protest and to provide appropriate compensation.
