
KATHMANDU: Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index experienced a negative circuit today, dropping by 6% and leading to the market closing for the day.
The market began to decline as soon as trading started. Within two minutes of the opening, the NEPSE index had fallen by 4%, triggering a negative circuit breaker. NEPSE halted the market for 20 minutes and then reopened it, leading to a second circuit breaker at 11:23 am.
At that time, the market had fallen by 5%. After the second circuit breaker was activated, trading was halted for a further 40 minutes. When NEPSE reopened at 12:04 pm, the index had fallen by 6%. With the third circuit breaker activated, today’s trading was suspended.
According to NEPSE, the index has fallen by 160.33 points to 2,511.91. Within that limited period, a total of Rs 728.7 million was traded. The market, which was closed on September 8 and 9 owing to the difficult situation, reopened today.
