PHIKKAL, ILAM: Minister for Urban Development, Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation and for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kul Man Ghising has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritise rehabilitation efforts in areas affected by floods and landslides.
Speaking at a meeting with stakeholders organised by the District Disaster Management Committee at the District Administration Office in Ilam on Saturday, Minister Ghising emphasised that since Ilam has been designated a 'disaster‑emergency district', rehabilitation initiatives will be given the utmost priority.
After inspecting the affected areas, he declared that the reconstruction of damaged motorable bridges, Bailey bridges and suspension bridges will be expedited.
The recent floods and landslides in Ilam damaged 19 motorable bridges, two Bailey bridges and three suspension bridges.
Ilam's Chief District Officer Sunita Nepal reported that the floods and landslides in Ilam resulted in 39 fatalities, 26 injuries and one person missing.
Meanwhile, 276 families were displaced, 151 houses were destroyed, and 327 houses sustained partial damage.
