LAHAN: Area Administration Office in Lahan Municipality of Siraha district has resumed its passport issuing service, which had been suspended following vandalism, arson and looting during the Gen-Z protest.
According to office chief, Under-Secretary Vednidhi Khanal, the service formally resumed on Monday after the necessary electronic devices were reinstalled.
"Now the passport service has started being provided regularly," Khanal said. "The service resumed after the computer device, scanner, QR reader, signature pad, stand, and camera received from the Department of Passport, along with the intranet linked with the department, were installed." However, stating that full service could not be provided on Monday due to a technical problem with the website, Khanal informed that full service will commence from today.
He said arrangements have now been made to provide services to 50 people daily from the branch. With the commencement of the service, work to verify online forms and biometric details has started. "If the details provided by the service recipient online match the details mentioned in the national ID, information will be sent to the concerned service recipient via message on their mobile phone," Khanal informed.
The Administration Office had already restarted the national ID service on September 21 after the camera of the national ID branch, which was looted during the Gen-Z protest, was returned. According to Santosh Raya, the office's section officer, the service is currently being provided to register the details of about 70 people daily, which used to reach up to about 150 people before the protest.
Chief Khanal informed that the minor arson attack and vandalism at the office during the protest caused damage of approximately Rs 1.5 million. The office provides services to the citizens of Lahan Municipality's wards 1 to 24, along with wards 12, 13 and 14 of Dhangadhimai Municipality, wards 2 and 6 of Laxmipur Patari Rural Municipality, ward 1 of Navarajpur Rural Municipality, Sakhuwanankarkatti Rural Municipality and wards 1 to 5 of Bhagwanpur Rural Municipality.
