
KATHMANDU: Nepal’s year-on-year consumer price inflation stood at 1.87% in mid-September 2025 compared with 3.86% a year ago, the macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Tuesday shows.
Food and beverage inflation decreased 1.34%, while non-food and services inflation stood at 3.70% in the review month. During the same period in the previous year, the price indices of these groups had increased 5.06% and 3.19% respectively.
Under the food and beverage category, the year-on-year price index for the ghee and oil subcategory increased 11.09%, for non-alcoholic drinks 3.97% and for milk products and eggs 2.66%, while the price index for the vegetable subcategory decreased 12.74%, for spices 6.31% and for pulses and legumes 3.58%.

Under the non-food and services category, the year-on-year price index for the miscellaneous goods and services subcategory increased 11.77%, for education 7.67%, for clothes and footwear 6.29%, for tobacco products 4.84% and for furnishing and household equipment 4.55%, while the price index for the insurance and financial services subcategory decreased 0.22%.
In rural areas, the year-on-year price index increased 1.73%, while in urban areas it rose 1.91%.
By province, in the review month year-on-year consumer price inflation in Koshi Province stood at 2.99%, in Madhesh Province 1.74%, in Bagmati Province 1.72%, in Gandaki Province 1.47%, in Lumbini Province 1.76%, in Karnali Province 1.85% and in Sudurpashchim Province 0.88%.
In Kathmandu Valley, Tarai region, Hill region and Mountain region, the index stood at 2.21%, 1.70%, 1.68% and 2.51% respectively.
Wholesale price inflation (WPI)
Year-on-year wholesale price inflation stood at 2.10% in mid-September 2025 compared with 2.75% a year ago.
The index of consumer goods stood at 4.21%, while the indices of intermediate goods and capital goods stood at 0.83% and 2.35% respectively. The wholesale price index for construction materials increased 4.18% in the review month.

In Nepal, the year-on-year consumer price inflation remained at 1.87% in mid-September 2025, while in India it stood at 1.54% in September 2025.
