KATHMANDU: Thirty-eight teams have been mobilised across 44 districts to assess damage to public property, physical structures and private enterprises during the September 8–9 Gen Z protests. The teams will evaluate the damage and prepare reconstruction plans.

According to National Planning Commission (NPC) Assistant Spokesperson Dibakar Luitel, the collection of loss details is planned to be completed by the coming week.

For uniformity and convenience in data collection, the Damages Assessment Survey Portal has been launched. Respective offices at local, provincial and federal levels are required to submit details of damages through this online system.

Luitel stated, “Usernames and passwords have been provided to around 260 local levels across the 44 affected districts, as well as to all provincial and federal ministries and central agencies. The collected data and details must be uploaded to the survey portal.”

Earlier, during the Council of Ministers meeting on September 21, a five‑member committee was formed, coordinated by the secretary of the NPC, with the mandate to assess damages and prepare a reconstruction plan.

Under the coordination of the NPC’s joint secretary, a subcommittee has been formed to facilitate the committee. The subcommittee includes representatives at sub‑secretary level from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministries of Finance, Home Affairs, Federal Affairs and General Administration, Urban Development, and the National Disaster Risk Reduction Authority. A secretariat has been established under the leadership of the NPC’s joint secretary.

According to the NPC, under the leadership of the undersecretary, 38 teams have been deployed: 34 teams in 41 districts and four teams in the three districts of Kathmandu Valley. For supervision, 11 teams have been deployed under the leadership of the joint secretary across all provinces and the Valley.
