Manaslu trekking route reopens in Gorkha

GORKHA: The Manaslu trekking route in northern Gorkha has reopened.

The route, which was completely closed from Thursday due to the risk of landslides following heavy snowfall and rainfall, reopened today, Acting Chief District Officer Chitrangat Baral said.

The district administration has urged trekkers to start their journeys only after obtaining up‑to‑date information about the route from their trekking guides.

Baral added that the route was reopened after the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology forecast that the weather will improve gradually.

Chief of the Manaslu Conservation Area Programme, Gorkha, Santosh Sherchan, said trekkers have been urged to check the weather and take precautions as some sections of the route have been damaged by rainfall.

Tourists heading to the Manaslu area were compelled to return without reaching their destination because of heavy snowfall and rainfall.
