KATHMANDU: The Department of Passports has made it clear that it will distribute 1,000 passports daily.
The Department, through a notice, announced that passports will be available daily from today, except on public holidays.
The Department has already signed a procurement agreement in the month of Shrawan with a new supplier for electronic passports, and according to the agreement, new infrastructure and systems are being put in place to start passport services from February 23, 2026, a press release issued today stated.
The Department has clarified that there have been some issues in passport distribution due to the transition between the new and current suppliers (handover and takeover), as well as the limited number of passport booklets and high demand from service users.
It stated that efforts are being made to ensure there is no shortage of passports until the stated period, urging everyone that only those applicants who urgently need a passport should apply until further notice.
The Department has urged the public not to rely on unauthorised persons regarding passports and to be cautious of potential fraud from such individuals.
