Remittance inflows rise 35.4 pc to Rs 553.31bn in Q1: NRB report

KATHMANDU: Remittance inflows into Nepal increased 35.4% to Rs 553.31 billion in the first quarter of current fiscal year 2025/26. This compares with an 11.9% rise in the same period of the previous year, the macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), on Sunday, shows.

During mid‑September to mid‑October, remittance inflows stood at Rs 201.22 billion, up from Rs 144.17 billion in the same period a year earlier.

In US dollar terms, remittance inflows rose 29.2% to 3.94 billion in the first quarter of FY 2025/26, after a 10.6% increase in the same period of the previous year.

Net secondary income, or net transfers, reached Rs 610.61 billion in the review period, up from Rs 443.76 billion in the same period of the previous year.

The report shows that 123,459 Nepali workers, both institutional and individual, obtained first‑time approval for foreign employment in the quarter, while 77,257 received re‑entry approval. In the same period of the previous year, the corresponding figures were 110,654 and 59,939 respectively.
