BIRGUNJ: Goods and materials worth Rs 284.89 billion were imported through Birgunj border point in the first four months of current fiscal year 2025/26. This was an increase of Rs 43.86 billion compared with the same period of the previous fiscal year, when imports totalled Rs 241.03 billion.
Bishnu Prasad Gyanwali, Chief Customs Administrator at Birgunj Customs Office, said there has been an 18% increase in imports through the border point during the four months of current fiscal year compared with the same period of the last fiscal year. "Compared to the four months of the last fiscal year, there has been an increase not only in imports but also in revenue collection in four months," Gyanwali said.
The Office collected Rs 66.73 billion in revenue in the first four months of the last fiscal year; in the four months of the current fiscal year, it has collected Rs 75.59 billion.
Major imports through Birgunj border point in the four months included five types of petroleum products worth Rs 54.12 billion, iron and goods made of iron worth Rs 25.52 billion, and machinery and spare parts worth Rs 19.54 billion.
Other items imported include crude soybean oil worth Rs 18.31 billion, electrical machinery, equipment and their parts worth Rs 16.04 billion, and fertiliser worth Rs 15.43 billion.
