Kakarbhitta records imports of over Rs 16bn, exports of over Rs 8bn in 4 months

BANIYANI: Goods worth over Rs 16 billion were imported through Kakarbhitta, the eastern border point, in four months of current fiscal year 2025/26. Similarly, goods worth over Rs 8 billion were exported through the same point in the period.

Information Officer at Mechi Customs Office, Ishwar Kumar Humagai, said goods worth over Rs 16.02 billion were imported from mid‑July to mid‑November in the current fiscal year. The office stated that goods worth over Rs 8.96 billion were exported in the four months of the current fiscal year, compared with goods worth over Rs 8.30 billion in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

Compared with the same period in the previous fiscal year, imports have increased by 12.12% while exports have decreased by 4.12%. During the four months, the office collected over Rs 5.46 billion in revenue from imports and exports: over Rs 5.33 billion from imports and Rs 123.46 million from exports. Revenue collection has increased by 15.66%, an increase of over Rs 739.47 million.

Among the top 10 items exported through the Kakarbhitta border point, exports of black cardamom, veneer sheets, dog and cat food, dried ginger, cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli, and red split gram have increased, while exports of tea, plywood, broom grass and iron sheets have decreased.

Black cardamom exports have more than doubled. Black cardamom worth over Rs 3.97 billion has been exported, an increase of 109.2% or over Rs 2.07 billion compared with the same period last year. Tea exports have dropped by 37%, with tea worth over Rs 1.37 billion exported in the four months of the current fiscal year.

Plywood exports have decreased by 52.7%: while plywood worth over Rs 1.25 billion was exported by the end of Kartik in the previous fiscal year, only over Rs 595.01 million was exported in the same period of the current fiscal year, a decrease of over Rs 662.24 million. By contrast, exports of veneer sheets have increased by 135.8%, rising from over Rs 164.51 million in the previous fiscal year to over Rs 386.26 million in the current fiscal year, an increase of over Rs 221.76 million.

Export of dog and cat food has increased by 33%; dog and cat food worth over Rs 379.91 million was exported in the four months of the current fiscal year. Broom grass exports have declined by 23.9%, with broom grass worth Rs 262.563 million exported. Dried ginger exports have increased by 3.2%, with ginger worth Rs 242.416 million exported. Exports of cauliflower, cabbage and broccoli have increased by 36.1%; these vegetables, worth Rs 113.191 million, were exported in the current fiscal year.

Red split gram exports have risen sharply, increasing by 481%. Red split gram worth Rs 91.28 million has been exported from this border point, compared with Rs 15.71 million in the same period of the previous fiscal year.

The office stated that only iron sheets worth over Rs 37.88 million were exported in the current fiscal year. Iron sheet exports have declined by 97.3%.
