KATHMANDU: National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has announced the recipients of this year’s awards and prizes for contributions to the protection and promotion of human rights.
A recommendation committee meeting held today under NHRC member Manoj Duwadi decided to confer the Late Dayaram Pariyar Memorial Award‑2082 on Shankar Limbu of Ilam and the Human Rights Prize‑2082 on Menuka Dhungana of Achham district, NHRC spokesperson Dr Tikaram Pokhrel said.
Limbu is a tireless activist who has long worked for the rights of indigenous nationalities, while Dhungana is an Achham‑based journalist who raises human rights, women’s rights and other issues of marginalised communities in the media.
The award and prize carry Rs 50,000 each and a letter of appreciation. The titles will be presented on the occasion of International Human Rights Day on December 10.
