KATHMANDU: Finance Minister Rameshore Prasad Khanal today stated that the election will be held on schedule with the consent of all political parties and participation of the general public.

Speaking while inaugurating the 16th annual general meeting (AGM) of Nepal Association of Financial Journalists (NAFIJ), Minister Khanal said the current government, formed under special circumstances, is committed to successfully holding the election as per its assigned responsibility.

He warned that if the election is not completed on the stipulated time, the country could head towards uncertainty and instability, and said discussions are being held with stakeholders to ensure a free and fair poll with significant public participation in a safe and fearless environment.

Khanal said the international community is evaluating Nepal’s economic development positively. Stating that the private sector will be encouraged for economic progress, he said, “The structures and assets created by the private sector also belong to the Nepali people. Attacks on them are not right. Everyone should emphasise the protection of the private sector.”

He added that unnecessary comments made through social media and other communication mediums discourage individuals and organisations who want to serve society and the nation. “If someone has committed a crime, the government is ready to punish it. If the process is not right, it can be improved, but if wrong steps are taken against entrepreneurs, it will negatively affect the economy. Let’s always work in favour of the country and the people,” Minister Khanal said.

Minister Khanal stated that the government is active in ensuring good governance and transparent service delivery by incorporating the spirit of the Gen Z protest, which was sparked by rising corruption among powerful state officials.
