United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres has strongly condemned the terrorist attack on a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney, Australia, offering his condolences to the victims’ families and wishing a swift recovery to those injured.
In a statement released on Sunday by his deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq, Guterres expressed solidarity with the people and government of Australia, as well as with the Jewish community in the country and worldwide during this difficult time.
The UN chief also reaffirmed his opposition to antisemitism in all its forms, emphasising that attacks on religious communities and peaceful celebrations undermine the core values of tolerance, coexistence and human dignity.
