Current account surplus widens to Rs 279.65bn, BOP to Rs 318.40bn: NRB

KATHMANDU: Nepal’s current account recorded a surplus of Rs 279.65 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2025/26, according to the latest macroeconomic and financial situation report released by Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) on Monday.

The surplus was Rs 147.78 billion in the same period last fiscal year.

In US dollar terms, the current account surplus stood at 1.99 billion, compared to 1.10 billion in the corresponding period of the previous year.

Likewise, net capital transfer amounted to Rs 6.21 billion in the review period, up from Rs 2.47 billion a year earlier. Foreign direct investment (equity only) inflow was Rs 2.49 billion, down from Rs 5.76 billion in the same period last year.

The overall balance of payments (BOP) remained in surplus at Rs 318.40 billion, compared to Rs 205.83 billion in the previous year. 

In US dollar terms, the BOP surplus was 2.26 billion, against 1.53 billion in the same period last year.
