TEXAS: Altogether, 1,260 Nepalis have availed themselves of services from the Consulate General of Nepal in Dallas since its establishment last October.

The figure was unveiled at an interaction recently organised by the Nepal America Journalists Association (NEAJA) in Dallas.

Prabin Bhattarai, spokesperson for the Nepali Embassy in the USA, said 692 people availed passport‑related services and 568 received services related to travel documents, powers of attorney and other consular matters from the Consulate General, which was set up in response to demand from the Nepali diaspora in the USA.

Suresh Adhikari, Consul General, said the sizeable Nepali diaspora in Dallas is highly enthused by the establishment of the Consulate General. Speaking at the interaction attended by local journalists and members of the Nepali community, he reaffirmed his commitment to provide prompt service to applicants and ensure that no one visiting the office returns home without receiving assistance. He urged applicants to visit the Consulate General’s Facebook page and website for notices.

Harihar Birahi, senior journalist and former president of the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), noted the growing number of Nepalis living abroad and emphasised that the Nepali media should play an instrumental role in raising awareness among the Nepali community through community journalism. Other participants, including journalist Narayan Puri, made recommendations to the newly established Consulate General to make its service delivery more effective.

On the occasion, NEAJA secretary Shankar Thapa said applicants had felt a respite after the Consulate General was established in Dallas and underscored the need for enhanced mutual cooperation and collaboration to make the Nepali Embassy’s service delivery in the USA more effective, organised and user‑friendly.

The Nepali Embassy in the USA officially opened consulate general offices in Dallas, Texas, and San Francisco, California, last October to ease services for the sizeable Nepali communities in those cities.
