Rasuwa: Imports from China have resumed following the reopening of the Rasuwagadhi border checkpoint, restoring a key trade route between the two countries.
According to the Border Security Post at Rasuwagadhi, 18 electric vehicle (EV) microbuses entered Nepal through the checkpoint on Saturday, marking the first such imports via the route in the current fiscal year. The vehicles are currently parked at Timure as importers complete customs formalities.
On the same day, 39 cargo containers carrying goods such as apples, ready-made garments, garlic, vehicle spare parts, walnuts, batteries and medical supplies also entered Nepal.
Customs Office spokesperson Thakur Gautam said a total of 96 containers have entered Nepal since the crossing reopened last Thursday. Perishable goods are being prioritised for clearance, while inspections of other items are set to begin from today. The office has collected Rs 90.87 million in revenue in the two days since operations resumed.
The Rasuwagadhi checkpoint had remained closed since July last year after floods washed away the Miteri Bridge. Trade resumed after the Chinese side constructed a temporary bailey bridge.
