The United Nations Security Council is set to convene an emergency meeting on Monday following a US operation in Venezuela, the council’s presidency confirmed on Saturday.
Khadija Ahmed, spokeswoman for the Somali Permanent Mission to the United Nations, said the meeting is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. (1500 GMT) on Monday. Somalia currently holds the rotating presidency of the Security Council for January.
The development follows an operation launched by the United States on Saturday in Caracas, during which Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife were captured, according to reports.
Further details surrounding the operation and the agenda of the Security Council meeting have yet to be disclosed.
